ABC's of Backgammon Slang

If you are interested in trying out the gambling game backgammon, but feeling lost when you read instructional materials about it, the problem may be lies in your weak backgammon vocabulary. To help you with your problem, here are some backgammon terms explained in simpler words:

Bakelite - this is a type of material which is used in creating the parts of a backgammon set during the old times. Many gambling players would testify that they like this more than what is being used in the backgammon equipment at present.

Banana Split - this is a gambling player's move which ends with splitting up markers that they end up as blots, or isolated markers which are in danger of being hit by the opposing gambling player. The markers are separated from each other, that is why it is called a split. The banana word is added to describe the gambling player who will make this move because he is likened to a person who is going bananas, or in other terms, going crazy.

Bankroll - this is the gambling player's budget for the entire gambling session. Gambling players of blackjack must know their limits before playing a game, or end up buried in gambling debts.

Bar - this is a long elevated part of the backgammon board which separates the home board from the outer board. This is also where the gambling players put their markers which have been hit.

Beaver -this is what reraise is in poker. An example of this is when the opponent offers a double, and the gambling player accepts the raise of stakes and even offers to redouble the stakes. Gambling players are the ones who are most familiar with the beavers because this rule take effect only if backgammon is played as a gambling game and not as a tournament.

Behind in the Count - this is the state of a gambling player who has lesser moves to make to win, which is called the pip count.

Big Play - this is the strategic play made by the more aggressive gambling player. It is a risky play, and the gambling player chose to do this over a less dangerous move. Aggressive gambling players do this even if it is dangerous because they like to make things happen than to wait for them to happen, unlike the passive gambling players. In a nutcase, the big play is a make or break kind of play.
